The health protection of the population also includes the investigation of pathogens, bacteria and viruses transmitted by vector organisms such as mosquitoes and ticks. The Applied Microbiology Laboratory coordinates the control of mosquitoes in urban areas in Ticino and actively cooperates with the Federal Office for the Environment and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel in the Swiss monitoring of mosquitoes.
