The mission of the Institute of Systems and Technologies for Sustainable Production is the innovation of manufacturing systems and processes, products and business models in order to accompany companies in facing the challenges of globalization under the economic, environmental and social aspects, thereby increasing competitiveness and added value, reducing consumptions and emissions, and improving health, safety and welfare of workers and consumers.

The fulfillment of this mission is achieved through the development of human capital and the innovation of production systems and technologies by means of education activities at bachelor, master and life long training levels, as well as through research, development and technology transfer activities with reference to the life cycle of products and industrial processes, particularly in the fields of design, automation and management of production systems and the relative value chains.

The main topics of interest of the Institute are:

• Robotic based automated production systems and reconfigurable industrial robotics
• Industrial technologies and systems for additive manufacturing and 3D printing
• Design and simulation based optimization of energy efficient, green and lean production systems
• Analysis and management of environmental friendly networked enterprises and consumer oriented value chains

Such topics are promoted within education and training activities, as well as within research and technology transfer activities, conducted at the laboratories of the Institute.
